Physical Education
at St.Louis Dundalk
Physical Education plays an important role in student’s lives here in St.Louis Dundalk, developing student’s physical competence, health awareness, personal and social skills and lifelong engagement in physical activity. Emphasis is placed on learning through movement rather than on performance alone, supporting students’ physical, mental, and social well being.
Physical Education is a mandatory subject at Junior Cycle that supports students' well-being and aims to provide students with a broad and balanced range of physical activities. Learning is student-centred and inclusive, enabling all students to develop movement skills, apply them across a range of contexts, and engage positively with others. All students undertake Classroom Based Assessment 1 in Second Year titled: Physical Activity for Health and Enjoyment.
Senior Cycle Physical Education (SCPE) aims to encourage learners’ confident, enjoyable, and informed participation in physical activity during senior cycle and in their future lives. The framework is structured around six curriculum models, which are tailored to our school context.Senior Cycle PE is mandatory for all students.
Leaving Certificate Physical Education (LCPE) develops the students’ capacity to participate in Physical Education and Physical Activity in a confident and informed way. Students are encouraged to analyse performance, apply theoretical concepts, and make informed decisions related to Physical Activity and Wellbeing. Leaving Cert PE is an optional subject.
