Geography
at St.Louis Dundalk
The Junior Cycle Geography course focuses on helping students understand the natural and human worlds and the interactions between them. It introduces key physical processes such as weather, climate, rivers and coasts, alongside human topics like settlement, population, economic activity and development. Emphasis is on developing curiosity, critical thinking and an awareness of how Geography connects to everyday life.
The Leaving Certificate Geography course builds on Junior Cycle learning and is divided into core, elective and optional units. Students study one elective—in St. Louis we study Human Geography—and one optional unit, geoecology (higher level only). The course develops analytical, research and evaluation skills, requiring students to apply theory to real-world examples. It prepares learners for further study and careers in fields linked to the environment, planning, social sciences and earth sciences.
